Investment Landscape
The Healthcare Market in 2026
Healthcare private equity delivered record performance in 2025, with disclosed deal value exceeding an estimated $191 billion. Provider and biopharma remain the largest market segments, driven by healthcare IT activity, while medtech has shown outsized growth since 2020. An uptick in deals exceeding $1 billion drove the record value, but deal counts grew across all deal sizes.
In the UK, healthcare services — care homes, hospitals, primary care and diagnostics — continue to attract both domestic and international capital, driven by ageing demographics, NHS capacity constraints and the structural undersupply of specialist care beds.
What Investors Are Targeting
Assets Attracting Capital in Healthcare
Care Home Platforms
The UK care home market continues to be the most attractive in Europe, supported by resilient private-pay demand and private fee growth. Large-scale care home platform acquisitions defined the UK healthcare market in 2025. US REIT capital remains active alongside growing domestic REIT deployment.
Private Hospitals
Significant hospital sector activity in 2025 included Blue Owl Capital in talks to acquire a 12-asset UK private hospital portfolio operated by Spire Healthcare. The sale of Practice Plus Group's secondary care business to Narayana Health for approximately £189 million in October 2025 signals continued international appetite for UK hospital assets.
Physician and Clinic Networks
Buy-and-build platform strategies across oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology and dental continue to attract PE capital. Leading platforms are distinguishing themselves via moves beyond traditional buy-and-build models toward integrated, clinician-centric approaches that elevate care quality.
